The buzz word of today is "GOING GREEN". Everyone is talking about it and how to make their data center more efficient. It is even becoming trendy to be "GOING GREEN" or working on a "GREEN" project. Why all of the emphasis on going GREEN? Rising utility costs are forcing data IT managers to redesign their data center to be more efficient.

According to a recent report by the Uptime Institute, nearly half of data center managers expect to hit their maximum energy capacity in the next two years however IT demand continues to grow.

It all comes down to the cost of getting it cool. Research firm Gartner predicts that by the end of 2008, nearly half of the data centers worldwide will not have sufficient power and cooling to support new high-density servers and storage. By 2011, more than a third of all data center budgets will be allocated to environmental costs.

Data Clean Asia can help. We have products and services to help you realize the maximum potential from your existing cooling. By better using the cold air that you already have, your CRACs can run at higher set-points therefore saving you money. Most data centers are not adequately using the cold air they have due to incorrect placements of perforated tiles, high percentages of bypass air and simply wasting of underfloor cold air. Contact Data Clean Asia to show you the right products and services to help save your cooling dollars.

Operating a data center that is energy-efficient requires careful planning, best practices and some often complex new technologies. But the ultimate goals are often pretty fundamental-such as keeping the cold air from seeping out through the raised floor. KoldLoks are essential for eliminating bypass air loss in the data center. KodLok grommets feature a slef-sealing, multilayer airflow closure system. The grommets use two opposing arrays filaments-3,100 filaments per cross-sectional inch-to control airflow without embedding the cables.

“KoldLoks are important for making sure the cold air is going exactly to where you need it and making sure you’re delivering the right amount of air to your servers.

The HotLok® Blanking Panel is a next-generation blanking panel that reduces hotspots and bypass airflow by preventing equipment exhaust air or hot-aisle air from migrating to the conditioned air-intake stream at the front of the cabinet.

The HotLok Blanking Panels are a green solution for energy consumption savings and reducing the carbon footprint of data centers.

The AirBoost fan assisted floor tiles offers direct cooling to those hard to cool areas where clusters of high-density servers have created hotspots. AirBoost can be part of “greening’ solution as well. Many times data centers are kept 2 to 3 times cooler than necessary just to cool a few high density areas. This over-cooling is used to keep the hotspots under control but with a AirBoost solution in place, the overall room temperature can be increased as the AirBoost will control the individual and problematic hotspots without requiring an over-cooled data center.

PlenaForm is a widely used “greening” product on the market today. PlenaForm allows you to reduce energy consumption by partitioning off vacant data center space and turning off unneeded CRAC units. PlenaForm uses are to:

> Seal off perimeter corridors
> Cool a hot spot
> Create dedicated cold aisles
> Partition the plenum space around command control consoles
> Increase underfloor air pressure and improve air-flow

Open space in server racks creates an unrestricted recycling of hot air that can cause equipment to over heat by allowing air to recirculate or backwash through the cabinet. The use of blanking panels can eliminate this problem by stopping the air before it can flow through the cabinet.
